ADVANCED LIFE SUPPORT COURSE-Saturday 24 Februry 2018

This course will be held at the FAC Training Room, The Station, University of Newcastle, Callaghan from 9am-3pm (registration from 8.30am) including light lunch and morning tea

Advanced Life Support for Medical Registrars Course is suitable for Registrars in General Practice not Registrars in Hospital. It is also suitable for ACRRM Members

Learning Outcomes

 1.            Perform resuscitation using the ARC BLS and ALS guidelines, including DRSABCD.

 2.            Use of BVM device oropharyngeal, nasopharyngeal and LMA airways and the use of a defibrillator in resuscitation.

 3.            Use various suction devices and MacGill's forceps for the relief of acute upper airway obstruction.

 4.            Identify and manage potential cervical spinal injuries using stiff neck collars and immobilization strategies.

 5.            Complete simulated scenarios, including team management, clinical interventions and patient safety.

Directions to venue

Enter the University at the Stannett St traffic lights (not the large roundabout) stay in the right lane, take the first right.

Go over 4 speed humps (2 big ones & 2 small ones) and turn in at the Hunter (Griffith Duncan Theatre) sign on your left. Continue down the hill to the immediate right, Hunter Lane (not to the carpark on the left, Bowman Cres).

Parking is free after 5.30pm on weekdays and anytime over the weekend in staff and general parking (you do not need a permit).

Do not park in ‘Service’ car parks.

The Training Room is in the third row of demountable buildings with a ‘Lismore’ sign
