MYTH BUSTERS

Dr Brett Locker

Dr Brett Locker was born and grew up in Newcastle. After graduating from Medicine at Sydney University, he later returned to Newcastle’s John Hunter Hospital for Obstetrics and Gynaecology specialist training. Brett has worked in Darwin and Port Macquarie. Wanting to broaden his gynaecological practice, he returned once again to his home town in 2005 and is now a Senior Staff Specialist at John Hunter Hospital. He runs a dynamic private practice, and is experienced in all areas of gynaecological practice, including bladder and prolapse issues, and urodynamic studies. He also has a keen interest in menopausal medicine, bleeding problems, abnormal PAP smears, together with contraception and fertility issues. Brett enjoys providing much needed specialist services in developing countries such as Kenya, Cameroon and most recently Bangladesh. He enjoys a busy family life with 5 daughters, church involvement and is a regular at his local park run. Brett offers consultations and urodynamic studies at Hunter Gynaecology in Charlestown, and also provides outreach consultations in Singleton, Nelson Bay and Taree. He operates at a number of private hospitals in the Hunter Region and on the Mid North Coast

Dr Gracia Chong

Dr Gracia Chong is a specialist Gynaecologist and Advanced Endoscopic Surgeon, with an interest in gynaecological ultrasound, endometriosis and ovarian pathology. She is also an accredited colposcopist with the RANZCOG Colposcopy Quality Improvement (C-QuIP) programme to manage any pap smear abnormalities. Gracia graduated from Trinity College Dublin in Ireland, and completed her specialty training locally in the Hunter Region. She is a Fellow of the Royal Australian and NZ College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, and has completed a Masters of Clinical Medicine with the University of Newcastle, as well as a Diploma in Diagnostic Ultrasound. She is a staff specialist at John Hunter Hospital with accreditation for advanced laparoscopic surgery, and maintains a passion for teaching in her role as a Conjoint Lecturer with the University of Newcastle. She also supervises and supports local gynaecologists training in ultrasound. Gracia believes in providing the highest standard of professional care that is individualised to each woman’s needs. She offers consultations and performs 3D pelvic ultrasounds at Hunter Gynaecology in Charlestown, and performs gynaecology procedures at Warners Bay Private Hospital.
