Dr James Thomas

James is a neurologist with current appointments at John Hunter and Liverpool Hospitals. He completed his undergraduate medical training with a Bachelor of Medicine at the University of Newcastle alongside a Bachelor of Medical Science focussing on the genetic basis of stroke. James completed postgraduate training in neurology at the John Hunter Hospital and Liverpool Hospital. He undertook fellowship training in stroke and neurophysiology at Liverpool Hospital. James is currently undertaking a PhD through the University of New South Wales in the area of acute stroke diagnostics with a focus of cerebral small vessel disease. He is actively involved in a number of clinical trials of acute stroke and secondary prevention treatments. He has a passion for translating cutting-edge research developments into direct patient care. James has experience treating a broad range of neurological disorders. At the Newcastle Brain Centre he will see patients with all neurological conditions, including stroke/TIA, headaches/migraine, vertigo/dizziness, memory/cognitive problems, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, nerve and muscle disorders and neurodegenerative conditions.
