Dr William Lumsdaine is a fully qualified, Australian Orthopaedic Surgeon with international sub-speciality training and experience. Dr Lumsdaine has recently returned to Newcastle from the United Kingdom, where he has spent the last 5 years working as a surgeon in the Hand Management Unit at the prestigious Chelsea and Westminster Hospital in London.

He has experience in all conditions of the hand and wrist and has a special interest in the management of acute hand injuries, hand and wrist arthritis, Dupuytren’s disease, and chronic post traumatic conditions.

A local trainee, Dr Lumsdaine obtained his Bachelor of Medicine from the University of Newcastle in 2010. He also completed his Advanced Orthopaedic Surgical Training in Newcastle and became a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in January 2020. He has completed a Masters in Traumatology from the University of Newcastle and a Post Graduate Diploma in Applied Anatomy by Dissection from the University of New England.

Following his surgical training he undertook international fellowships in Asia and Europe. A fellowship in Reconstruction, Trauma and Microsurgery at E-Da Hospital in Kaohsiung, Taiwan; and a Hand, Wrist and Trauma fellowship at the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital in London, UK. Dr Lumsdaine was subsequently invited to take up a post as a Consultant Hand and Wrist surgeon in London and was awarded the Diploma in Hand Surgery by the British Society for Surgery of the Hand (BSSH) in 2022.
