DR PETER POCKNEY

Dr Peter Pockney is a colorectal and general surgeon at Newcastle Private Hospital.  He is an Associate Professor of Surgery at the University of Newcastle and at UWA. Peter was previously the senior lecturer in surgery at the University of Newcastle for 10 years and continues as a member of the NHMRC Centre of Research Excellence in Digestive Health located at HMRI in Newcastle.  His medical school training was at UCL in the UK (Distinction in Surgery) with junior and advanced training also in the UK.  He completed his fellowship in Colorectal Surgery here in Newcastle. 

CI Pockney has extensive translational and clinical research interests, including currently supervising 8 PhD students in surgically related projects with basic scientists and other medical discipline areas at the University of Newcastle.  He also has extensive research projects and has published over 100 peer reviewed papers with colleagues across Australia, Aotearoa New Zealand and throughout the GlobalSurg Network internationally
