Dr Gwilym Morris

Dr Morris is a Cardiologist who has undertaken training in the medical and interventional treatment of heart rhythm problems especially atrial fibrillation (AF). He also has an interest in sports cardiology. He implants pacemakers and defibrillators, and performs ablations to treat heart rhythm disorders, while also undertaking a wide range of non-invasive diagnostic investigations. Dr Morris trained in medicine at the University of Oxford, after completing an intercalated degree in Physiology he was awarded a Wellcome Trust scholarship to fund a period of research before commencement of undergraduate clinical training. His postgraduate Medical and Cardiology training was undertaken in Manchester. He advanced his skills in cardiac ablation and pacing through a clinical fellowship in Pacing and Electrophysiology at the world-leading cardiology department of the Royal Melbourne Hospital led by Professor Jonathan Kalman. During this time he received intensive training in advanced arrhythmia management and ablation, and performed research into mechanisms of atrial fibrillation. Following his fellowship he returned to the UK where he took up a post as a cardiologist in Manchester. He moved to Newcastle in 2022 where he is part of a team pioneering the use of new technologies for the treatment of atrial fibrillation in Australia to improve success and safety. He has helped teach other cardiologists around the world how to use these techniques.These methods include pulsed field ablation and cryoballoon ablation. In addition, Dr Morris is experienced in the use of advanced cardiac mapping.
