A/Prof Ryan Winters

Otolaryngology, Ear, Nose and Throat, Facial, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Originally from the United States, Dr Ryan Winters first came to Australia as an exchange student in 2001 at the University of New England in Armadale. Lifelong friendships, as wells as new professional friendships, led to his recruitment after medical and specialty training to Newcastle in 2022, and he is now very proud and fortunate to call Newcastle his home. Medically trained in the USA with specialist training in Otolaryngology – Head & Neck Surgery, to become Board-Certified by the American Board of Facial Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery. He later became a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, as well as a Fellow of the American Academy of Paediatrics, and subsequently completed an additional fellowship in Head & Neck Surgical Oncology and Microvascular Surgery at the Cleveland Clinic in 2017. Dr Winters achieved Fellowship in the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2023, one year after migrating permanently to Australia. He is a passionate humanitarian, working for Mèdecins Sans Frontiéres/Doctors Without Borders since 2017, in addition to many other non-governmental organisations as a field surgeon performing complex facial reconstruction. When not at work, Dr Winters enjoys all that Newcastle and the Hunter Valley have to offer including local restaurants and markets, cooking, cycling, SCUBA diving, and (despite his best efforts) he remains a very average (though keen!) surfer.
